Remembering Your Future Past

Recently singer Daniel Barrett of the Austin band Porterdavis came to my home for my weekly pre-production session for my forthcoming album of original music. As he walked up the stairs into my recording studio area, I started congratulating him on something he hadn’t done yet.

“Dan, it was great to see your book on the New York Times bestseller list. I felt proud to know I was a part of that process. And I’m thrilled to see that you can still make time for our lessons with all the media requests and offers you’re getting since your book hit it big time. “

Dan stood at the top of my stairs and took in what I was saying. I was using his own process on him. He was letting it sink in. He knew he hadn’t written his book yet. But he also knew I was speaking from the future, and reporting back to him what had happened.

“The reviews say your book is a breakthrough in creativity and has implications for quantum realities. Your millions of readers are loving your new process. And I loved seeing you on national television talking about it all.”

Dan introduced me to his Remembering Process at a recent lesson. I was struggling with writing my first songs. Dan said, “It’s easier to remember than to create.”

“It’s easier to remember than to create.”

He invited me to start trying to remember what my first song was all about. How it sounded. The lyrics. The melody. The chords. He wasn’t asking me to create it; he was asking me to remember it.

Daniel Barrett and The Snake

Daniel Barrett and The Snake

I started to get high on this fun process. I told Dan it felt like an advanced form of Nevillizing. In my book The Attractor Factor I invited readers to “Nevillize” a goal by pretending it had already happened. It’s what Neville Goddard taught. It’s a powerful way to implant a goal into your being.

But Dan’s “remembering” process was as if you had gone way off into the future, way past the completion of the goal, and you were now trying to remember how you accomplished it.

The first time Dan taught me his method, I couldn’t stop doing it. Our entire conversation was around, “I remember that my first song had this cool guitar lick in it.”

I’d then play the guitar lick.

I’d then stop and wonder what was next in the song.

Dan would say, “What do you remember being next?”

Obviously, there was no actual song in that moment,* yet because I was trying to remember one from the future, it egged me to be creative in a playful, curious, fun way.

And yes, I did write that first song.

And yes, it has some catchy guitar licks and hypnotic lyrics.

And yes, I loved the process of creating by remembering.

Dan is writing a book about his method. He has to, since I saw it in his future and told him I remembered it being a bestseller.

Meanwhile, I asked him to explain The Remembering Process for you. Here’s what he emailed to me:

“This process is akin to visualization. The only drawback of visualization is that once you start connecting to universal time, visualizing can almost take something “out of” your field. Wanting it suggests that you might not get it. Remembering it affirms that somewhere in the time space continuum you have had this thing for years. Eons. Really, forever since those measurements are pretty arbitrary when placed next to the other model of time.”

I explained this process to singer Sarah Marie and then demonstrated it by saying, ” I remember hearing you received an advance of one million dollars for your next music CD.”

Being a quick study, Sarah smiled and said, “Actually, it was for 1.2 million dollars.”

This blog post is the very first public sharing of this new secret to attracting what you want. Dan gave me permission to share this with you.

I suggest you play with this.

Whatever your next goal or intention happens to be, imagine it’s done and you’re way past it in time.

What you do next is remember the thrill of accomplishing it.

And from there you can play with remembering how you accomplished it.

In another email, Dan added this thought to help explain the Remembering Process:

“They say that Michelangelo felt he ‘freed’ the David from the stone. Somewhere in the time/space continuum, that sculpture was complete and finished. He remembered the form, and allowed it to enter it’s new life.”

I remember how much you loved this process.

I remember that you used the process a lot, and bought Dan’s book when it came out, and loved it.

Remember?

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – Daniel is in the award-winning band Porterdavis. I remember you checked them out and loved their music, too.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for this post. I’ve worked with people for years on visualizing by writing the vision as a journal entry, after the day or event has already happened. They’re free to add all the fun little details you only get from a memory and is hugely helpful.

Until today though, I had never thought of it as ‘remembering.’ Brilliant!

I remember the first time I read Daniel’s book and how useful it was in helping millions of people.

    Thanks again,
    PJ

    Joe,
This is great! I’ve been trying to “Nevillize” several areas in my life that I desire improvement, but would get stuck feeling like I was just “wishing” it were all true. This is a tremendous breakthrough that I will start TODAY utilizing. Thanks so much for sharing!

I love this idea of remembering. I was just getting ready to write a script dated 1 year from today describing 2011 and how evolved in detail. Remembering adds a new dimension! Thanks!

    Dear Joe,

The first thing I remembered when I read the title of this post was an old album of Moody Blues: Days of Future Passed .

The next: Rupert Sheldrake’s books on morphogenetic fields. The ideas are there from eternity. The more we remember them, the more people remember them, the more likely it will be manifested the way and form people remembered and resonated the most.

I remember you looked up Sheldrake in your library. πŸ™‚

  13. January 26, 2011 at 10:16 am

I remember how cool it was when I first read this article! It reminded me of a word I made up – premember – as in to remember the future. I had read that Dr Stephen Hawkin said that in the physics equations there is no difference between forward time and backwards time – so why is it that we only think we remember the past but not the future? I think we *do* remember or premember the future – that is exactly what is happening when we do an attraction process. And like any muscle in the body it getting better with practice. πŸ™‚

When I read this it made me smile remembering (really) how I had taught a visualization process years ago where I had people look around their office and remember how it felt to create all the success they saw symbolized in the photos and awards. This process takes it to a whole other level. I love it! It gave me goose bumps as I read it. I’m going to use it right now!

    Thank you for this gift.

I remember returning to my recording project, finishing my songs, recording a few new ones I’d remembered along the way, and enjoying record numbers of downloads on iTunes. The concept is not new. I read it for the first time in Dan Brown’s novel “Angels & Demons” some years ago. When Robert Langdon and Vittoria Vetra, the two protagonists, were held captive, Vittoria “remembered” their way out of their imprisonment.

Hi Joe. thank you for this inredible post.
however I really need your help on a question I’ve been struggling for since I started to use the LOA. some LOAs teachers say that, when you’re setting an intention you should include a date, a time frame to Visualize/Nevellize precisely, to be very specific. Others teach not to include a date because if you do that, you are trying to control things and your are not letting go and letting God. What do you teach?
I remember you gave me a very clear and lifechanging answer which help me understand one of my biggest question and help me manifest more easly my intentions. I was so excited and grateful. this was on Jan 30 at 1:09 pm lol (you see, I don’t know if it is a good idea to be so specific!!!)
    love,
    bric

    • January 30, 2011 at 12:06 pm

Hi Bric. The short answer is you do whatever makes you feel best. My own approach these days is to be more open-ended. My ego might want a deadline, but the Divine may have something better in store for me. I’d rather be relaxed and enjoy each moment, trusting the intention (or something better) will manifest in its own sweet time. – joe

I’ve done something similar all my life – never knew what to call it or how to describe it – THANKS to both of you!!! (The foreign-language translations of book and album are exciting, no?!)

Observation: If one has a fairly well-developed sense of precognition, using this technique can be rather confusing… especially if you’re like me, and have an overly-developed analytical side.

For those who witness this – just go with it!!!

Does it really matter if it is “remembering” or “precognitive?”

    NO!!!

Just how much more confirmation do I need to trust my inner wisdom before i share this wisdom with as many people as want to live a life that they love ….instead of hiding this wisdom along with myself !!!!!
