We saw a pre-release of the movie, The Opus, last night.
It stars —
Bob Doyle, Dr. John DeMartini, Morris Goodman, Marci Shimoff, Jill Lublin, Dan Lier, Jack Canfield, Dr. Joe Vitale, Mark Victor Hansen, Jennifer Alexander, LuAnn Mitchell, James Malinchak, Trent Carlini, Bill Bartmann, Keith Kochner, Allan Marston, Eli Davidson, Dr Sue Morter, Willie Jolley, Ed Tate, Garth Roberts, David Saxby, Bryan Shultz, Debbie Allen, Jim Ziegler, Dianne Legro, Tami Walsh, Mark LeBlanc, Frank Maguire, Dr. Joe Rubino, Janet Attwood, Betty Cooper, Elisabeth Fayt and Peggy O’Niell.
The creator and producer of the movie is also the main star of it: Doug Vermeeren.
There’s a natural tendency to want to compare The Opus to the hit movie, The Secret, but that wouldn’t be fair.
The Secret was a feel good documentary about the law of attraction. I love it and think it will go down in history as one of the most inspiring and life-changing movies ever created. I’m proud to be in it.
But The Opus is a down to earth self-help, story-documentary with the main push being to get you to decide on a goal, take action, and stick with it. While there is some “attraction” talk in the film, that is not its main focus.
Framed around the story of a famous violinist, a cast of teachers (including me) pop in and out to tell you how to find your vision, move into action, and never give up.
I found the story of Martin Luther King as a child being taught how to dream to be moving.
I always find Morris Goodman’s story of his miraculous healing to be inspiring.
Bill Bartmann’s story of how he set a financial goal for himself was enlightening.
He simply found the net worth of the 400th richest person on the Forbes list and decided to make one dollar more than him, giving himself a measurable goal to accomplish (which he did).
I liked the movie. So did Nerissa. Apparently crowds in Calgary and Edmonton who saw a special showing of it went wild and loved it.
I don’t know what impact The Opus will have on people. In some ways it’s just the traditional goal setting stuff you and I have heard and read for decades. Of course, the same could be said for The Secret, though very few people knew about the law of attraction when that movie came out compared to the abundance of material on goal setting as The Opus comes out.
But the beauty of a good movie is that you get the same information in an easy, visual, even emotional form, which means it has a better chance of getting into you and sticking with you.
The main message of The Opus is to bring your music out, to enjoy now, and to leave something behind.
The movie wants you to — as I say in it — “Dare Something Worthy.”
When the movie is released (I don’t know the date yet), go see it.
It just might awaken that song in your heart — your own Opus.

Joe

Thanks for you review Joe. I am glad to hear you liked it. I did too. I was in Calgary and Edmonton and I will also travel to see it in chicago.
I agree with most of the comments who feel it is the greatest personal development film yet. It is practical and very practical. I do disagree with your assessment of it being similar information to what we already have. There were a lot of comments and ideas on achievement which I had never heard before. (ie. The importance of giving back, or what it means to have clarity, or the thoughts on failure and adversity.) I have been studying goals setting and personal development for quite sometime and I found that the thoughts in this film were powerful and insightful. and much more practical than the Secret. And although there was some informaiton that had been heard before, I found there were so many new thoughts that I feel this is a necessary film for all people to see and include in their tools for achievement.
Just my thoughts….
Hi Troy. Glad you liked the movie.
You’ll find thoughts about giving back in my book The Greatest Money Making Secret in History.
You’ll find thoughts on clarity in my books The Attractor Factor and The Key.
You’ll find thoughts on failure and adversity in all my works, and in my recent audioprogram The Missing Secret.
And that’s just from MY works.
Again, I like the movie. I just don’t think there is anything new about achieving goals in it.
Again, that doesn’t dismiss the movie. As I said in my blog review, a movie can deliver the same information in a more memorable way.
The Opus succeeds at that.
Blessings,
joe
I’m a little surprised. With so many people getting excited about this movie you really don’t seem to be that interested in supported it and getting excited about it like you have your other projects…. Am I misreading?
I thought the film was great. Many people on other blogs are calling it the best personal development film yet. Almost everyone is saying that it by far surpasses The Secret. 96.1% of people polled on Squidoo say it’s a better movie than The Secret. Media clips that I’ve seen on several Canadian TV stations are saying it’s the practical answers that other films left out. Many people are predicting huige things for this film… But it appears that Joe simply says “I liked the movie.” Kinda weird.
Am I missing something?
Hi Troy. I like the movie. If you loved it, great. I’m supporting it and will continue to support it and will even promote it, but I can’t say what I don’t feel. I’m sure you’d prefer me to be honest then to lie. Besides, since the movie isn’t released yet, and only two audiences have seen it, I doubt we can cast a verdict on it being the best personal development film ever. Let’s maintain a little objectivity and let the public decide. Also, the movie isn’t even completed yet. What you and I saw were unfinished near-final edits. The actual completed movie might rock the house — and even me.
Blessings,
joe
I didn’t mention by the way, that I really enjoyed your sections in the film. One thing that many people with me the night of the Calgary premiere were very excited to see was how much more the gang from The Secret really brought to the table this time. I know in the Secret action was talked about and a few other thigns. But one thing that everyone with me commented was how much this film actually gave you guys more credibility. Let’s face it – there were a lot of critics the first time around. (and I am a fan of the secret) but we really felt this film gave a more clear view of a realistic or complete journey to get success. I am glad we got to hear more from all of you. I really feel like this film gave me more answers.
By the way did you see the behind the scnes pics from the events. check it out you might be impressed…http://www.theopusmovie.com/behind_scenes.html
Just curious when the Secret launched did they do events?
Hi Troy.
The Secret launched just over two years ago — but online only. It was an Internet driven viral marketing campaign that swept the world online and built into a frenzy.
You’re right about some of The Secret teachers getting more time in The Opus. Bob Doyle seemed to be in the movie as much as Doug. 🙂
Yes, I’m aware of the behind the scenes pics. I’ve promoted the trailers for The Opus and the site for months now. One of the behind the scenes pics is on my main site at https://www.mrfire.com and has been there since last summer.
Blessings,
joe
I’ll have to watch it again, but I think you are right there was a lot of Bob. But also quite a bit of Marci Shimoff, Morris Goodman and John Demartini too. I thought Doug was in there less than the four of them. But I still think quite visible. You were in more than many of the others, but probably not enough – that is one thing I would have liked is to hear more from you.
It seemed like in The Secret there was also a lot more Bob than the others. Demartini didn’t even show up until closer to the end. and marci had only a few clips. And morris of course, wasn’t featured until further in the film. How did you feel you were represented in the Secret?
Something you said rubs me the wrong way Joe. The truth be know the Secret was also ALL review information. THERE WAS NOTHING NEW OR ORIGINAL ABOUT THE INFORMATION IT SHARED. Your comments about that being what the Opus is really bugged me. Anyways, I just thought I’d let you know. I saw it too and I loved it. Your sections were pretty cool. And I agree with what Troy and others are saying. It has more meat than other films and it was great to hear more from The Secret teachers.
DARE SOMETHING WORTHY!!!!!!
I loved you in the film Joe. Definitely AWESOME!!!!
Thank you. 🙂
Hello Joe, I have enjoyed tremendously all your books and participation in The Secret. I look forward to watching The Opus.
We just need to be careful to remember that God is the one that enables us to achieve our successes and we have to give the credit to Him.
On Deuteronomy 8, 17-18 it says:
When you become successful, don’t say, “I am rich, and I’ve earned it all myself.” Instead, remember that the LORD your God gives you the power to gain wealth. That’s how he keeps the promise he made to your ancestors.
Many blessings to all,

That’s one thing I did like about the Opus is that it wasn’t as new agey as the secret was. I am a Christian and I am guessing that Art is too. Art you will love the Opus!
i saw the film as well. i liked it very much. personally, i think the film will better than the secret because the message is far more accessible. i think the message is also far more important. leaving a legacy and a successful predictable pattern for accomplishment. i thought was great. so the big question i am sure everyone is asking – tell us joe are we going to see the opus on oprah? i certainly hope so.
Just saw the Opus. I loved it. I thought it was great! I enjoyed it far better than the moses code or the secret. This is most practical film I have ever seen. I felt the other fiolms lacked substance and tried to hide behind flashy viduals. But they left me feeling kinda ripped off. The Opus delivers. I highly highly recommend it. 10 Stars!!!!!
Hi Joe,
I was honored to shoot The Opus with you.
What I have seen of the film leads me to agree with your review of the film 100%. It takes heart and integrity to be honest about a project in which you are involved.
BRAVISMO!!!:lol::lol::lol:

The Opus is by far better than the secret. It actually has something people can apply. I think it will surpass the secret in every way. Congratulations on another homerun Joe! This film will be the tool to get people actually doing something.

I also saw “the Opus” at the Direct sellers Womens Alliance in Las Vegas. This was my first convention for this group that I have ever attended. I enjoyed it very much but I would have liked to hear more about The Opus. They had many of the speakers there, but not one of them spoke (except Jack Canfield.) But he spoke mostly about the Secret. I feel, like many other people, that The Opus was a far better and more in-depth movie and I would have liked to hear more about The Opus. don’t get me wrong, Jack was a fabulous speaker. But frankly his thoughts from The Secret really didn’t give me anything new or helpful. It was just a lot of feel good stuff. The Opus on the other hand was very inspiring and left me wanting more. I wish Jack would have spoken more about The Opus. It’s the new project – the secret is now over two years old. Anyways, that’s just my opinion….
Hi Joe, It was great to see you in The Opus. I enjoyed your comments very much and felt they were wonderful contributions to the film. I look forward to all of your future projects as well. You have a great insight to success. I was also pleased with many others in the film and of course many of the new comers in the film that we had not been introduced to before. I really enjoyed Ed Rush and thought he was particularly interesting and my other favorite was the creator Douglas Vermeeren. I think both of these people (as well as many others in the Opus) will go on and become significant players in the personal development industry. I also enjoyed Bill Farley, but I don’t know much about him… Is he a motivational speaker as well?
Thanks again for sharing this fabulous project with us Joe.
God bless you.
10 times the power – 10 times the value – 10 times the inspiration and motivation of The Secret. I know – I was in both. The Opus should be seen by every man – woman – and young adult in THE WORLD. Simply sensational!!!!!

I am really looking forward to this film, even more so than the secret. Hopefully it will be in the Dallas area soon.
The Opus has changed my life and the lives of several of my family members. We have discovered a greater purpose in giving back and sharing joy with others. We have always talked about helping in our community – but the Opus has inspired us to really make a difference. To take action and create our Opus Now. We have already felt the joy and benefit from being part of the legacy the Opus is creating!
Just saw The Opus for the first time today – it didn’t have the exposure of The Secret, but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. I liked how they followed the life of a fictional person to make their points … Great stuff!
