My Top 10 All-Time Favorite Life-Changing Books

I’m back home and going through my mountain of backed-up emails.

A lot of emails are from media wanting to interview me. One reporter wanted to know my top ten all-time favorite life-changing books. A book addict like me can’t pass up a question like that. I dropped everything and quickly listed the following:

The Magic of Believing by Claude Bristol – This one changed my life when I was a teenager. I’ve read it a dozen times since. It’s a classic.

The Book of est by Luke Rhinehardt – This is my second favorite book of all time. It shows how you create your own life. It’s very hypnotic.

Attaining Your Desires by Genevieve Behrend. This two-volume set of gems by the only personal student of Judge Troward reveals the true secrets of the universe. Inspiring.

Zero Limits by Dr. Hew Len – This is an incredible simple system for removing all barriers to success by a therapist who used it to heal an entire ward of mentally ill criminals. It’s a little unfair to list it here because I co-authored it, but still, the book is changing my life.

177 Mental Toughness Secrets of the World Class by Steve Siebold – A masterpiece of wisdom that you need to read, absorb and study. A work of genius.

Beyond Positive Thinking by Dr. Robert Anthony – A classic by a living legend.

At Your Command by Neville – This is the little known first ever book by the mystic that changed my life. I love Neville.

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield – A modern day classic by a true hero of personal growth.

Why Is This Happening to Me — Again? by Michael Ryce. This one helped me see my inner programs and helped me release them. A powerful book.

Think like a Winner! by Dr. Walter Staples. A remarkable clear-headed approach to change from the inside out.

There’s another dozen or so books that should be on the list, but when forced to keep it to just ten, there’s my pick.

PS – I can’t leave this post without mentioning that Barry Neil Kaufman’s To Love Is To Be Happy With was another life-changing book for me.

PPS – I can’t believe I didn’t list Debbie Ford’s eye-opening book, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers. Anything by Debbie is worth reading. This one gets you to own your “shadow self” – the part of you that you are trying to hide from the world. Integrate it and you have super hero powers. Well, you’ll at least be happier.

PPPS – There are so many more books I wish I could list here. What are your life-changers?

Live from Miami

I've been talking to a company here about having my own television show.

Talks went past midnight at a cigar bar. It was exciting.

Talks resumed with gusto this morning.

Right now they are interested in a reality show where I meet real people who were changed by my books or audios.

I have no idea where this will go but I've learned a big secret to a happy life is to say YES to what comes your way.

I'm enjoying the dot.

Defining Moments…Guaranteed for all HERE!

I’ll be speaking at a powerful new event next month and thought you’d want to know about it.

It’s all about the “defining moment” in your life when the lights come on and everything you’ve been reading and hearing about begins to work for you.

This event will give you that moment.

It will deal with the invisible factors to your success.

I’ll be there, and the group is small enough that you can easily visit with me (if you want to).

I’ll be speaking — for the first time ever — on “The Secret Behind The Secret.”

I’m not the only speaker at this event. The line-up is strong enough to make me want to attend — even if I weren’t speaking there.

For example, one of my heroes will be there — a man I will meet for the first time in my life but who I’ve studied and idolized for decades.

There will also be inspiring and informative speakers I’ve never heard before, as well as some I know are tops in their fields who are friends of mine.

There’s more, of course. The best thing to do is take a minute and sprint over to www.patobryan.com/cmd.php?Clk=1762204

Let me know if you’ll be at the event so we can sit and chat some.

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – NEWS FLASH: I just learned I will not be on the Oprah show this season. They had to make a tough decision. Out of the 24 teachers in The Secret, they can only take 5 for the show, which is a special one about the movie. I was among the 6 or 7 being considered but somebody had to sit in the wings. That’ll be me. I think this is a good thing. I can go on Oprah when Zero Limits comes out in July. Anyway, thanks for your support and belief in me. It’s all good. I’m happy. I’m enjoying the dot.

How to Become Fearless

We watched the 2006 movie Fearless the other night, starring the amazing Jet Li.

I loved it.

This beautiful film tells the mostly true story of Chinese Martial Arts Master Huo Yuanjia (1869~1910). Huo Yuanjia was the founder and spiritual guru of the Jin Wu Sports Federation. His philosophy helped bring respect to the Chinese people when they had none from anyone, including themselves.

I love the music, photography, acting, and sparring in Fearless. That shouldn’t be any surprise, as I’m a big fan of Jet Li as well as a student of martial arts.

I studied karate while still in junior high school in the late 1960s and I opened the Kent State University Aikido Club in 1973. (The first ad I ever wrote was for the KSU Aikido Club.)

I’ve also studied Chi Kung for about ten years now. I’m no Jet Li or Jackie Chan, but I respect them for what they can do.

What I may like best of all in the movie Fearless is seeing the change in the character himself.

He went from being self-centered, revengeful and angry to being respectful of himself and others. The change came after he hits bottom — which is all too often the place where most of us finally wake up and begin to change — but from there it’s up, raising the spirit of the Chinese people along with him.

Fearless is easy to watch and follow, even with subtitles. Whether you’re into martial arts or Jet Li shouldn’t matter, as this movie is all about awakening.

I believe that by watching great movies and reading great books about people who have transformed, you can learn and change without going through their pain first hand.

You don’t have to hit rock bottom like they did in order to change, if you listen to their message and act now.

Watch and become Fearless.

PS – The above picture is a scan of a poster for the movie Fearless, signed by the entire cast. It’s now part of my collection. Note the quote by Lao Tzu at the bottom of it: “Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself makes you fearless.”

PPS – Heads up: Pat O’Bryan is seeking ten people to train — for free — in how to build your own portable empire. This is a major opportunity. Get details at www.patobryan.com/blog.htm Be fearless and apply.

You Are Here

Yesterday I drove into Austin and met with the staff who run my Miracles Coaching program and my Executive Mentoring Program.

I had some exciting news to share with them, and some astonishing news arrived while I was there.

In the morning The Today Show called, wanting information on my forthcoming book, Zero Limits.
That’s pretty big, but not as big as the news that came later.

At lunch I handed out the recently completed bibliography of my life’s work so far — 45 pages of books, e-books, audios, videos, software, fitness formulas, and more — an entire listing of everything I’ve created up to now. The heft of the document alone impressed even me.

But that wasn’t the biggest news of the day, either.

At lunch with the staff, I stood up and told them something that I felt inspired to share.

I put a dot on the whiteboard on the wall and circled it.

“You are here,” I said.

I told them the whiteboard is like the map at the mall where all the stores are listed and a little box says “You are here” to give you your bearings.

“Where do you want to go from here?” I asked.

“Up,” someone said.

“Off the whiteboard itself,” someone else said.

“This is all good,” I went on. “You all want to move up. You want more sales, more results, more wealth. Right?”

They all agreed.

I then put another dot on the board, way up at the top of it, and circled it.

“That represents where you want to go,” I said.

I then asked the key question, “How do you go from where you are to where you want to be?”

They were quiet for a moment, but then began saying things like “Take a straight line,” and “Do one thing at a time,” and “Make more sales calls,” and so on.

“That’s all good,” I said. “Those are all practical answers. But I want you to think in terms of the movie The Secret and my book The Attractor Factor.”

I added, “I’m going to tell you what I think is the greatest secret to manifesting whatever you want.”

They were quiet, not sure where I was going with all this.

“Does anyone want to know what the secret is?” I asked.

They all burst out laughing. They definitely wanted to know.

I pointed at the little “You are here” dot and said, “The secret to getting what you want is to totally appreciate this moment. When you are grateful for this moment, then whatever is next for you will bubble up out of this moment. You’ll be inspired to take action of some sort. That will lead you up. But the only way to get to the upper dot is to live in this dot with gratitude.”

They’ve all heard this before, but I wanted them to truly get it.
I then told them about my Maui friend who says my favorite line these days: “I’m totally satisfied, I just want more.”

That’s the key to success, I explained.

It’s wanting more without needing more.

I went on and on about being grateful, and how it leads to that upward climb. Most of us aren’t happy right now, thinking we will be happy when we get to that other dot. But the great joke is that when you get to the other dot, you won’t be happy. You’ll be looking for another dot on the map. You’ll use unhappiness to whip yourself forward. The thing is, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Just be happy now.

Out of this now will come the miracles you seek.
The group got the message. They shook my hand. Smiled. Showed light in their eyes. Walked away with a spring in their step.

Now here’s the really juicy part.

I got a phone call right after that meeting. It was Suzanne, my assistant. She almost never calls me, and she knew I was in a meeting. So I knew this call had to be important.

I took the call and to my delight I learned that Oprah’s people wanted my media kit.

And they wanted it by midnight.

Oprah’s folks are considering me as a guest for a show.

Oprah!

Now get this: I was happy in the moment. As I’m happy, the next moment brings it’s own rewards. As I’m happy in that moment, it too gives birth to more joy.

You can do this, too. You may not have Oprah call you, but you will get what is right for you. I explain all of this in the book, Zero Limits. But the essence of the message is this:

All you have to do is embrace the dot that says “You are here” and do what it tells you to do.

And when the phone rings, answer it!
