You’ve heard that it pays to give, haven’t you?

You’ve heard about tithing as a way to give thanks for what you have and to begin to attract more of what you want, correct?

You’ve heard the stories of famous millionaires and billionaires who give away staggering amounts of money, right?

Well, do YOU give?

Do you give ten percent of your income to the people and places that inspire you, nurture you, and keep you balanced?

Probably not.

I know because I was just like you.

I heard all the stories about giving as a way to receive.

I heard all the teachers and preachers tell me to give more and give often.

But I was “too smart” for that.

I “knew” it was all a scam to get my money.

But one day I awakened to a harsh insight:

The longer I stubbornly refused to give, the longer I remained in struggle.

โ€œNo one has ever become poor by giving.โ€ โ€• Anne Frank

When I finally realized that if I can’t give a dollar out of my last ten bucks today, then I won’t be able to give a hundred thousand dollars out of my first million tomorrow.

It’s a form of self-sabotage to think otherwise.

People who convince themselves that they’ll give later, when they have more money and can “afford it,” are deceiving and deluding themselves.

It all begins now.

Today.

Today I give away everything from books to guitars to cars to cash.

You might think I do it because I’m wealthy.

The secret is giving

The secret is giving now

But I started doing it when I was working a job I didn’t like, getting paid just above minimum wage, and had stacks of bills just like you.

I started giving with what I could give.

As I gave, and prospered, I let my giving reflect my receiving.

And the more I gave, the more I received.

Today wealthy people – and not so wealthy people – are giving.

The big mistake most people make in giving is waiting.

The second big mistake they make is in where to give.

Here’s my thought on the matter:

Give now.

You have some money.

Take ten percent of it and give it away.

Don’t wait till you have more, as you are missing the prosperity of right now.

Where?

Give it to whoever or whatever gave you spiritual nourishment this past week.

That could be anyone or anything, from an Uber driver to a neighbor to a complete stranger who smiled and turned your day around.

But you have to start today and you have to give where you receive inspiration.

Why is this so important?

According to Edward Kramer, in his 1955 book, Pathways to Power:

“Clarence Howard, late head of Commonwealth Steel, used to say, ‘The hole you give through is the hole you receive through.'”

Dan Kennedy, marketing legend, often says it this way:

“The window you receive through is made bigger by how much you give.”

In other words, psychologically and metaphysically, the more you give, the more you open yourself to receive.

And don’t trick yourself into thinking because you helped a neighbor move a couch that you gave.

You gave muscle, but not money.

And don’t think because you took friends out to eat that you gave.

You bought dinner but you didn’t dish out money.

The law is specific: give ten percent or more of what you receive financially to where you received spiritual nourishment.

When you’re honest with yourself, you know who to give it to.

Do it.

Now.

One final thought:

Don’t worry about what the receiver does with what you give.

It doesn’t matter if they burn it, spend it, invest it, give it away, or anything else.

Your duty – if you want to attract more money – is to give now and give often and give where you received inspiration.

Why not do it right now?

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – A decade or so ago I wrote a little book on this subject, titled The Greatest Money-Making Secret in History. I also explain this concept in my free book, Attract Money Now.

Thank you very much for reminding about giving, Joe!
Got a question: if I don’t know how to give money to my source of inspiration, and all I can do is buy his/her book – does this count as giving money (considering that some of the money for the book will reach this person)?
    Thank you.

Hi Asan. Good question. No, it does not count, though it’s a noble idea. You need to give directly to wherever you received inspiration. I’m sure you can find their contact info online. Thanks for the question.

I have to admit it Joe. When I learned few years ago (from your book) that giving money helps receive more money, I didn’t believe.

But I also learned something else…

When we listen what our mind wants to tell us then we listen our beliefs which in most cases aren’t truth (but for us they are).

In other words when we try to understand HOW we will receive more and HOW giving money works then we are closed in our mind.

The problem is that our mind won’t understand that but our heart already know that.

What I try to say is that thanks to You I understand that heart is #1 and our mind is our best servant.

Today I know that giving money works. Why? It doesn’t matter ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Manuel. 10% is ancient, and comes from biblical literature, but you are welcome to give more. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Dear Dr. Joe,

    Thanks for your guidance.

A question: Is giving in a way that the giver remains incognito any better than normal giving?

Hi Dr Singh. I don’t know a reason to do one over another, so I think it’s a personal choice. Do what feels best to you.

    Hi Joe,
How do I get over the fear? I want to give, but my bills threaten to shut off a needed service if I don’t give the money to them.

    • May 8, 2016 at 2:30 pm

I understand, Marilyn. Pay your bills. But also “open the window” to receive by giving something, even if it’s a dollar to begin.

    • May 8, 2016 at 2:33 pm

Hi Tomino. I’ve been writing about giving off and on for well over ten years, so it’s not really new, even for me. As for how I was inspired to write it today, who knows? My mother died recently, today is Mothers Day, and I am grieving. Sharing this topic made me feel better. I hope it helps you and others. Thank you.

I send you love and blessings and especially during this sorrowful time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for you, your love and your generosity. In understanding that you should follow your bliss/passion in life, what does a person do if they are bombarded daily with new exciting ideas that really get them going and feeling the passion and excitement over each idea? I’m either one heck of a creator or I’m somewhat crazy! Also I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new Enlightenment Audio. Listening to it as I write this. <3

Thank you for explaining this, i come from a 3rd world country where there are beggars on every traffic light stop. most of the time i dont really like giving money to them as most of them are on drugs and i dont want to help another destroy themselves. and the amount of times i say to myself, il give more when i have more to give. i know better than that….from today im going to make sure i keep some money to give away and wish a positive outcome to whoever i give it to. thank you for your inspiration!
