The Fifth Miracle

It was October of 2012 that I told my music producer and friend, Daniel Barrett, that my desire to make more music was dead. I didn’t feel inspired or connected to the muse. I was happy with the four albums of healing music I had already created, but I didn’t see any more on the horizon.

I felt done.

As we talked, I had a sneaking suspicion that I may be deceiving myself. After all, self sabotage is rampant in virtually each of us and we usually don’t even know we are doing it.

Was I?

Daniel suggested we find a way to ramp up my energy for music. He didn’t know how, but he felt there was a solution.

“I know how,” I told him.

I did, too.

I knew a way to jump start the muse, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it.

He asked me to explain.

I took a deep breath and said, “I can set the intention to record five new songs by Christmas.”

Christmas was only two months away. It would be a miracle to write and record five new songs by then – especially starting from zero – and certainly after exhausting myself having just completed my fourth album, The Healing Song.

Daniel didn’t miss a beat.

“Why not go for ten songs?”

That made me gasp. It would be raising the bar even for me. I had already broken records by creating four albums in less than two years. Four miracles were plenty. But I accepted the challenge. We agreed that I would strive to create ten original songs within two months, and together we would record them to create my fifth album.

We both felt the exhilarating energy of having a goal that scared us and yet delighted us.

We both felt expectant, uncertain, open and willing.

But we had no idea how a new album would come out of nothing.

Now here’s where the story gets really interesting…

New album out today

New album created "out of thin air"

Remember, I didn’t have any ideas for new songs or any passion for new music. I felt tapped out. Yet the new intention “called forth” more music. The new goal stirred my creative self. Within days I had new songs coming to me. Within weeks I had almost two dozen ideas.

I couldn’t turn off the creative juices!

I would be sitting, reading a book on my iPad, and suddenly a song idea would enter my consciousness. I was smart enough to stop everything and write it down. (Always take action, remember.)

Other times I felt inspired to check out early or vintage rock and roll, what’s called rockabilly music. I simply followed the muse to see what occurred. I loved the searching, exploring and learning. (Always follow inspiration, too.)

Within weeks I had over two dozen pretty good songs. From those, I picked nine that I thought were solid. I left a tenth idea open to inspirational improvisation in the studio.

I felt ready to record album number five!

My band — not really “mine” but they were the same musicians who recorded Strut! and The Healing Song with me — got together again. We went into the studio on December 18th and 19th — right before Christmas, you’ll note — and recorded ten new tracks.

I’m told music doesn’t usually come together this quickly, or easily, or with this much energy and focus. But we got together in the studio and made space for magic to happen around my songs.

The result is my fifth music album, titled Sun Will Rise.

And it feels like another miracle.

When I held the finished audio CD in my hands, and listened to the original music I wrote and performed, brought to life with the musicians who supported me, I started to cry.

To think that this was created out of “thin air” is astonishing. To think that the songs are so good and the music so amazing and the messages so relevant, just makes me stop and stare in awe and gratitude.

I am grateful beyond belief.

It’s yet another miracle.

"My band" on my three singer-songwriter albums

"My band" on my third singer-songwriter album

Miracles are indeed happening all the time.

This story is living proof of it.

And it all begins with an intention.

In case you are curious, here are the stories behind each track on Sun Will Rise http://www.healingrockmusic.com/:

“You Gotta!” is self-help rock and roll. It’s fun, upbeat, and carries the message that “you gotta” take action. Since I’m a big proponent of action, this song and its message felt like the right lead for the new album. Thanks to “my band” – drummer Joe Vitale, bass player Glenn Fukunaga, lead guitarist Daniel Barrett – this song opens with a “you gotta dance to this” feel. Add saxophone by Greg Williams and this one is irresistibly delicious! You gotta hear it!

“Sun Will Rise” came to me “out of the blue,” as I held a guitar and just started to sing what came into my being. When I first played it for Daniel, he was speechless. He said it had the potential to be a radio hit. My staff says my message to the world is to have faith, that the “sun will rise” again. Your current reality is just that: current. It’ll change. The sun will rise again. This song is your reminder.

“The Secret” isn’t based on the movie I was in of the same name. Instead, it was prompted by a haunting song by Leonard Cohen. His song had the hypnotic refrain “Everybody knows…” but his lyrics were negative. His dark song is a great one to commit suicide to. I wanted something hypnotic but with a positive message. I wanted something healing. The result is what I call “The Secret” and you know it will do you good to listen to it. 🙂

“Sperichil” is rockabilly music. It’s pure fun. No special message in the lyrics but the voice and the vibe is all about be happy now! The name is simply the early spelling of the word “spiritual.” I surprised myself recording this song as I spontaneously howled like a wolf during parts of it. There is a happy contagiousness to this track that simply makes me smile and feel good. Isn’t that what life is all about? Isn’t that healing music? Be happy now. Smile! Dance! Love!

“Expectations” is a hypnotic intermission where I played a special double-neck guitar, where the top is a regular guitar and the bottom is a baritone guitar. With the professionals behind me on this one, the result is something I could listen to all day long. When I first heard it in the studio, I said, “Call this one Expectations, because it suggests something is about to happen, but you don’t know what.” You are free to expect whatever you want, positive or negative, and this music helps you feel the moment. Talk about healing!

“My Electric Car” is about my relationship to my electric car (which I’ve written about on this blog before). I love this song because of the lyrics and the blues rock music the band came up with. I really believe this one could become a gas guzzler’s anthem. You gotta hear it. There are moments in this track that send shivers of joy up my spine. It’s an example of how music becomes magic. Whew!

“Train of Women” is a rock ballad about a man who faces his fears and falls in love. It’s about one hundred and fifty women, all wearing bikinis, who come to see him. He is at first afraid, asking for everything from a crocodile to a body guard to being taken to Area 51, but by the end he falls in love. The old saying is true, what looks like your demon is really your angel in disguise. This song is fun, fast, funny and more. Call it a Rorschach test song. Whatever you get from it, is what you get from it. It’s a mirror. It’s “Healing Music” at it’s best. Rock on!

“Isaac the Psychic” is my attempt to create a Shel Silverstein – Johnny Cash “Boy Named Sue” kind of song. I came up with a character, and a story, and a funny chorus, and weaved it into a song. My band — the experts that they are — created a Reggae upbeat rhythm and the whole thing came together. It’s funny and memorable. You’ll smile listening to it. After all, I’m so psychic, I know you’re reading this.  🙂

“Super Heroes” came to me after my guitar teacher, Mathew Dixon, taught me a new chord progression. I wrote words to that progression.  Since I had just met actor/bodybuilder/Hulk Lou Ferrigno, and actor/Superman Dean Cain, I turned the song into messages from their characters. This is another feel good, relaxing song. It could be the theme to a television show. It’s about you being the new super hero. Don’t wait for a hero. Be one now.

“Ti Amo” was written for my love, Nerissa. I felt the urge to write a love song and thought, what better way to do it than to think of who I love and just write a song for her. I did. I believe anyone can feel the love in this one. Nerissa says she does. Love heals.

All of the above is a reminder that miracles are possible for all of us.

Yes, even you.

I created this fifth album of healing songs by declaring an intention. I didn’t have any reason or motivation or evidence that I could write ten new (and good, IMHO) songs in two months. But declaring an intention “called forth” all this music.

You can do this, too.

What do you want to attract?

What do you want to “call forth”?

What miracle would be cool to experience?

Declare it.

Your Best 2013 Goal

What would you love to see occur in 2013?

What would be cool for you to attract?

What do you really want?

Here’s your chance to help it happen.

Setting a goal “calls forth” virtually everything you need to achieve and attract that goal.

Just a few months ago I felt dead when it came to music. After recording four albums, one of them a hands down bestseller, all of them seen in Rolling Stone magazine, I didn’t feel connected to any more music. I wanted to quit.

Yet after I set a new goal, with the help of Daniel Barrett and his Rubicon artist program, new songs came forth.

A dozen of them.

Good ones.

Great ones.

Surprising ones.

Where were they before the goal?

The goal triggered the songs. The goal “called forth” the songs.

I then went into the studio — with drummer Joe Vitale, bass player Glenn Fukunaga, guitar player and producer Daniel Barrett — and created ten amazing tracks. I’m in awe of what we recorded. The soft songs were kissed by angels. The rockers raised the dead.

Recording ten tracks "called forth" by a goal

Recording ten tracks "called forth" by a goal

Yet there were no songs before the goal!

I recall having dinner with Rhonda Byrne, the person behind the hit movie The Secret. I asked her if she felt she created or attracted the movie idea. She thought for a long time and said, “I called it forth.”

With "Secret" creator Rhonda Byrne

With Secret hit movie creator Rhonda Byrne

“Calling forth” your outcome is what happens when you set a clear goal and have no attachment to how or when it arrives.

Today is your chance to “call forth” what you want for 2013.

It all begins with a clear goal.

Goals that are without desperation are easier to attract. Desperation is the energy of a negative belief pushing the goal away. You want a goal that delights you, even if you have no idea how you will attract it, or when.

Goals are how you start a fire within yourself. You might be feeling “blah” and have no desire for much of anything but living in the moment and vegging. But let an inspired idea become a goal and suddenly you ignite the pilot light in your soul. Now you have direction, purpose, and energy. The goal triggers the release of new powers, and even begins to attract opportunities and more to bring the goal into reality.

Ask, “What would be really cool to attract in this new year?’

Forget why or how. Let your unconscious mind work with “all that is” to arrange it to happen.

All you need to do today is choose your goal.

What’s yours?

Ao Akua,

joe

PS — Happy New Year!

The Mind Robot

Recently I interviewed Steve G. Jones, celebrity hypnotherapist and my partner on several projects, such as Wealth Trigger I and II, and the Law of Attraction Practitioner Certification course. I found him fascinating and insightful. One key principle from our interview is worth sharing with you here.

Steve pointed out that your subconscious mind looks for and offers you proof for your thoughts. That may or may not be news to you. But let’s look at it in real life terms, and see how it ties in to what you attract into your life.

With Steve G. Jones in NYC

With Steve G. Jones in NYC

When a person says, “It’s not possible for me to attract love into my life because all the good ones are taken,” their subconscious mind begins to look around for evidence to support that belief.

They may then find themselves attracted to a person, only to get more information and discover the person is not ideal for one reason or another. Then the person with the belief “all the good ones are taken” announces, “See! All the good ones are taken!”

Of course, that’s not true. Not in objective reality terms. After all, there are seven billion people on the planet. Surely there’s a match for the person seeking love.

But let’s dial in on this and take a closer look.

When you say, “I can’t attract more money” — or anything along the lines of “It won’t happen for me” — then you are simply delivering a belief to your subconscious. Your inner mind will then do what it is designed to do: prove your belief is true.

But is the belief true?

Do you see how important this is?

It means you have to become very sensitive to how you think. When I — or anyone — suggests you can have, do, or be more, what is your first thought? If it’s anything like, “Hogwash! You are just selling hope and it will never happen!,” then you are of course commanding your own mind to prove your own limiting belief to you.

But it’s not objective reality.

These days I sometimes do consulting with people. I constantly hear them voice beliefs they don’t realize are beliefs. They think their statements are clear observations of reality. They think their observations of reality are reality. But that isn’t always so.

This is why a coach is so crucial. You need someone to hear your statements and point them out to you, help you question them, and then release them or replace them.

My interview with Steve really made me aware that none of us listen to our language closely enough. I sometimes catch myself complaining or stating a limiting belief. I have to pause and ask myself, “Is the belief true in objective reality?”

In other words, is it a fact we can all agree on and even measure?

More often than not, it isn’t.

Discover how to attract money fast

Discover how to attract money fast

Years ago, when I trained with famed bodybuilder and Olympia winner Frank Zane, I was urged to watch my mouth. Frank would tell me, “I pay attention to how people speak. Your statements are usually empowering, but when you got under the squat rack, you started to say you couldn’t do it.”

He was right.

Frank wanted me to learn that my thoughts were leading me to create my own limitations. My statements about what was possible were in fact programming me to expect the very thing I declared. I was programming a robot: me.

I’m inviting you to monitor your thoughts and your language. What you say is programming you. As Steve pointed out in our in-depth interview, your words are speaking reality into being. But the reality you speak is one fabricated because of what you speak.

Here’s what Steve suggests you do right now to remedy this:

  • Speak as if what you want is already true. “I am a multi-millionaire.” “I am in love with the perfect person for me.” “I am healthy.” You get to choose. Make it now, present tense, and positive.
  • Watch for clues. Your subconscious will hear your new language and begin to offer evidence for it. It will, in a sense, test you. Be sure to take action on the opportunities that arise, to prove you are becoming that which you speak you already are.
  • Be that person. In other words, feel as though you already are what you said. Your emotion will stir motion in and around you to bring the desired state into being.

As you review this post, what comes to mind?

What are your thoughts right now?

Do you believe you can reprogram your mind?

Do you believe you can have, do, or be virtually anything?

This is all part of the process of deprogramming the robot of you. It’s about freeing yourself of limitations. How you answer reveals your beliefs, not objective reality. You can remain programmed by circumstances and upbringing and past beliefs; or you can begin the process to take control right now and reprogram yourself for what you want.

Remember, your subconscious mind will look for evidence to prove what you believe and expect.

So, what would be really good for you to believe right now?

Ao Akua,

joe

Crash Course in Attracting Money

At dinner with friends recently, someone asked me how to attract more money when they are already doing everything right, feel they deserve it, and don’t know what’s wrong. They feel stuck.

I’ve written about this subject a lot, most notably in my free e-book Attract Money Now, and in my bestselling audio program, The Secret to Attracting Money, but I could tell these people were holding my feet in the fire and wanted more.

Here’s what I told them:

First, you or someone you hire has to have an eye on money.

Money doesn’t want pursued directly, but indirectly. You have to follow your dreams and keep a watchful eye on whether you are making money or not. The old catch phrase, “Do what you love and the money will follow” should actually be, “Do what you love and sell it.” That’s why Walt Disney said, “I want to make money from my movies so I can keep making movies.” Yes, follow your passion, but also watch what money is doing around it.

Second, money needs appreciated.

Most people see money as a necessary evil. They wouldn’t even want it if they didn’t need it to survive. That’s a poor attitude. Money can sense you don’t appreciate it. You need to learn, as Arnold Patent says, “The sole purpose of money is to express appreciation.” Start showing your gratitude for money and you’ll begin to attract more of it to be grateful for.

"The Secret to Attracting Money" Complete Course

"The Secret to Attracting Money" Complete Course

Third, money is a tool that can be leveraged to attract more money.

Most people don’t know this. When you get money, give it, save it, spend it, and invest it. A friend in Australia once taught me that he has learned to make money from his money, and then to make money from the money he made from that money. (Think about it.) He means to attract money from doing what you love, then invest it in some way, and then invest the money you make from your investment.

Fourth, give it away.

This step is part of number three above, but deserves its own explanation and focus. Most people hold on to money. They are afraid of losing what they have, or needing it for something they fear will happen. Again, lousy attitude. It means you’re really believing in scarcity. Even though every prosperity teacher says to give money away, you probably don’t. Right? (Be honest.) I advise people to give a portion of their income (usually ten percent) to wherever they receive spiritual nourishment. That could be a church, an author, a speaker, a bus driver, a waitress, or anyone or anything that inspired you. The key is inspiration. Don’t give out of obligation, give out of inspiration.

Fifth, clear your beliefs around money.

This one is THE most important step, because if you have unconscious beliefs about money, you will filter out the opportunities around you to attract more money. You won’t see them! This is why coaching is so important. An objective, trained listener can help you spot your limiting beliefs about money, which helps free you of them. Money is everywhere. Trillions of dollars are floating right by you. But you won’t see any of it with belief blinders on.

Again, I’ve written extensively about this subject on this blog, and elsewhere. But let’s apply the above insights to you right now:

Are you or someone you hired focused on watching money?

Do you appreciate money, saying “thank you” as you write your checks?

Are you leveraging/investing your money to attract more money?

Are you giving a portion of your money away every time you receive some?

Are you actively clearing your limiting beliefs around money?

If you answered “no” to any or all of the above, you know what to do next.

Money is a wonderful tool. With it you can help yourself, family and friends, and causes you believe in. Make peace with money and begin to enjoy life on a whole new level.

Your move.

joe

Secret Meeting Reveals Truth About Law of Attraction

“Can I ask you a few questions about your take on the Law of Attraction?”

I was sitting in the living room of the home of Morty Lefkoe, author, speaker, belief therapist. Morty is probably the most loving man I’ve ever met. He exudes unconditional acceptance. He radiates love. If we needed to find a living Buddha, I’d offer Morty.

He’s also brilliant. After working with and for Werner Erhard during the est days, and studying directly with Ayn Rand (author of Atlas Shrugged), he went beyond them and created his own method for exploring and releasing limiting beliefs. I know his method works. I’ve had sessions with Morty off and on for more than four years.

The Great Morty Lefkoe

The Great Morty Lefkoe

But this time I’m in his San Francisco area home, talking about whatever comes up. I find it fascinating. I wish it had all been recorded. Morty’s stories about Werner Erhard (who was best man at Morty’s wedding and developed The Hunger Project with him), and of Objectivism creator and controversial novelist Ayn Rand (who wore dollar sign jewelry and smoked cigarettes with dollar sign labels) were riveting.

But now Morty wants to know what I really think about the Law of Attraction.

“The law is real but it’s misunderstood,” I begin. “Most people have a superficial understanding of it. Most everyone thinks if they sit and visualize what they want, that it will just happen. That’s wrong. That’s magical thinking. If you have any unconscious beliefs about what you want, those unconscious beliefs will cancel your conscious visualizing. You have to get clear of your mental interference before you can attract what you focus on.”

In other words, you attract what you un-consciously believe, not what you consciously state. The Law of Attraction matches your inner expectations.

For example, if you state you want to attract money, but unconsciously feel money isn’t spiritual or you don’t deserve good things, you will not see the money ideas around you. Your blinders will prevent it. You’ll then say the Law of Attraction doesn’t work. But it is working. You’re getting what you really believe. You have to get clear of those limiting unseen beliefs first.

That made sense to Morty. He’s worked with tens of thousands of people. When they finally see the beliefs that had been operating unknown to them, they can now see opportunities that were there all along. Now attracting what they want becomes easier.

But Morty had another question.

“What about the people who say you just think it and you don’t have to do anything, that it will just appear?”

“That’s simply not true,” I reply. “I do believe that when you state an intention and you are clear of any counter intentions, that the universe seems to rearrange itself to help you attract your intention. But things don’t just appear out of nowhere. Life is a co-creation. You usually have to do something. Action is crucial. Believing you just think it and it appears is a form of self delusion and self sabotage.”

“The common idea that human beings are born to suffer is nonsense.  It is possible to fully acknowledge your pain and suffering, and then get rid of it in moments.  How?  Identify the meaning you are giving events that is causing the pain and suffering, and then dissolve the meaning, thereby dissolving the pain and suffering.” – Morty Lefkoe

Again, Morty agreed. He went on to say that he used to think the Law of Attraction was hogwash. Today he feels that you can “attract” things by allowing your mind to see opportunities and then acting on them. The more you remove any limiting beliefs that filter out what you see, the more you can see the opportunities that were probably there all along.

Still, action is needed. I said people take action or not based on their beliefs. Beliefs create reality. If people don’t have hope or faith, they won’t take action. Why would they, if they felt it wasn’t going to work out? But if they clear their doubt, their action will be natural and virtually effortless.

Morty also wanted to know what I thought about Rhonda Byrne’s statement that she never promoted her famous movie, The Secret. She simply “thought it” into success.

“I love Rhonda,” I say, and I truly do. “But she’s overlooking all the marketing she did without knowing or admitting she was doing it. For example, she had two dozen experts in her film. Almost all of them have mailing lists. I know I was the very first to promote the movie to my list. Rhonda may not have done that marketing, but she put me in that movie, and I did that marketing for her. I would never have sent my email out to promote her movie had she not told me to do so.”

Morty and I spoke a lot longer. I wish I could share it all with you. Before his beautiful wife offered us dinner, we agreed to each write a blog post about our conversation. This is mine. I haven’t seen his yet, and he hasn’t seen mine, as we are posting our articles on the same day. (This ought to be interesting.)
