Three Urgent Life Lessons

As I write this, my mother is dying. She is in pain, looks horrible, and cries out a lot. It shakes me to the core to see her this way. She’s beyond recovery with any of the healers or healing I know.

My father, 86 and going strong, is her basic caretaker. He has refused most offers of help. When I return home to see them both, I struggle with what I see.

I’ve been reflecting on the insights here for you and me. This is a time of letting go and processing. There are at least three urgent life lessons that I feel compelled to share with you. Maybe you know them; maybe you don’t. But I feel obligated to describe them, hoping they will help all of us.

Here they are:

Health.

If you don’t take care of your health, your enjoyment of life, and most likely your length of time here, will suffer. This isn’t to be taken lightly. I’m not just talking about how you feel today, but how what you do today will influence how you feel a few years to decades from now. You are sculpting your future self from today’s thoughts, decisions and actions.

My mother hasn’t taken care of herself. For the last 13 years she has suffered from depression and procrastination. Over time, that created the deteriorating body I see today. Yet my father has exercised every day for the last fifty years. He’s 86 and basically in good health. Seeing him handle my mother is an inspiration.

Your health should be your top priority.

Wealth.

Unless you do something today about your finances, years to decades from now you may find yourself relying on others. That may not be a good thing. The health care system we currently have in the USA isn’t very healthy, or reliable. You don’t want to burden family or friends, and you don’t want to count on them. The only way out is to be financially free. That way you can hire the best care, even a personal doctor or nurse. You can take care of yourself and be comfortable.

My parents are “OK” financially. Their bills are paid. They have some insurance. But they can’t afford what I think my mother needs right now. I can, of course, and I am doing whatever my father will allow. But I don’t think you want to end up in a position where you are dependent on others.

Your wealth should be a top priority.

Happiness.

Throughout life, the goal seems to be happiness. A better word might be contentment. Yes, we want life experiences and “stuff,” but that’s because we think they will bring us happiness. The real goal is to be happy now.

My mother is not happy. My father is, or at least appears to be. And I confess that during this time with my mother I have had difficulty finding my center; that place of peace in the center of the cyclone. Yet happiness, or contentment, is the secret passageway to making all of life enjoyable, or at least acceptable.

Contentment should be your central priority.

Those life lessons are important. But how do you make them a reality?

Here are a few answers that have helped me:

Health.

Take care of your health

Take care of your health

Today the average life span is about 78 years. Thanks to better nutrition and better medicine, we are living longer. But you can’t stop there. Read Dr. Marc Gitterle’s book on anti-aging, called Growing Young. I realize there are numerous books on health and wellness. I know Dr. Gitterle. He’s helped me. His book is a breakthrough. Get his e-book direct from his website or get the printed version at Amazon. (I don’t make a dime when you buy it.)

Wealth.

Take care of your finances

Take care of your finances

According to the Associated Press on November 17th, “People who are 90 or older have nearly tripled in number since 1980, to 1.9 million…The trend is posing unique health challenges and adding to rising government costs for the strained Medicare and Social Security programs.” Save yourself. Read Attract Money Now. It’s free. I wrote it to help you out of the money mess. Quit giving your power to others; quit being a victim; quit complaining. Find your path to freedom. Get it direct from this link: http://www.attractmoneynow.com (Remember, it’s free.)

Happiness.

Erase beliefs to be here now

Erase beliefs to be here now

This moment is the miracle. Even with all the challenges, even with all the sadness, even with all the suffering, this moment is still a miracle. Finding peace within the circumstances of the moment is your test. There are many ways to help yourself return to this moment. When I was getting on a plane to see my mother a few months ago, and I knew she was in ER and didn’t know what I was going to face, I had to slow down my breathing, quiet my mind, and return to the serenity of the moment. My being at peace when I got to see my mom also helped her relax.

When I review this post, I see that I’m describing what others have said is our search and our right: the pursuit of health, wealth, and happiness. It’s not new. It’s centuries old.

The real question is, are you actively pursuing these?

The key word is actively.

It’s one thing to nod your head and agree with me. It’s quite another to stand up and do something.

I’m asking you to do something.

As I was writing this post for you, I learned a friend of mine from college died.

Then I learned the mother of another friend passed away.

What’s the best way to deal with these life challenges?

Nature reminds us of the way:

A cat we’ve had for over ten years suddenly stopped eating, looked ill, and left. He was feral. We had never been able to touch him, let alone catch him. But I marvel at how in tune with nature he was. He didn’t complain or second guess or doubt. He accepted his moment and moved on.

Sandy moved on naturally

Sandy moved on naturally

But the story gets even better.

Our dog, Wolfie, has never slept indoors at night. Not in ten years. Not during heavy rains or deep freezes. Never. But once our feral kitty left us, Wolfie moved in. Somehow Wolfie knew her friend no longer needed her outside for protection or company.

It’s inspiring to see nature work in such perfection. I want to be so in tune with my Divine connection to know what to do in each moment. For now, it’s writing this message to you.

What is it for you?

Finally, I’ve sometimes asked my readers to join me in holding an intention. Whether to stop a hurricane, clean up an oil spill, or put out wildfires, every time I’ve made such a request there was a measurable difference in the world.

This time I’m asking you to help my mother.

Please hold the intention that she is at peace in her body and mind. Send her love. Pray, clean, meditate, or whatever else you feel guided to do.  Ask for her most benevolent outcome.

Thank you.

I love you.

Ao Akua,

joe

PS — I wrote a song called “Three Months” that you’ll be able to hear on my forthcoming music CD, Strut! It’s based on a true story, where a friend was given three months to live. The song asks you to reflect on the question, “What would you do if you had three months to live?” It might be worth meditating on today, especially since tomorrow is Thanksgiving holiday in the USA: What would you do if you were given a short time on earth? What are you grateful for? Who are you grateful for? Who would you call? Thank? Hug? Kiss? What would you do? The moment to do something is right now. BTW, Happy Thanksgiving.

"Beyond Man": Texas Wildfires Update

Here’s an update on the Texas Wildfires situation that I asked you to help resolve in my last post:

The last I heard, the largest fires are mostly contained or stopped. The people I personally know in the Austin or Houston area have all returned home. And rain is expected by mid-next week.

All of your praying, meditating, visualizing and more, have all helped.

But we can’t stop now.

There are at least 1,500 people who lost their homes.

All of the fires are not out yet.

And we need more than a little rain.

To get an idea of the size of the fires, one fireman told a reporter that the fires are “beyond man.”

He was explaining that firefighters on the ground aren’t going to be able to stamp out or hose down fires so big that I could see them from the air on my plane ride home.

What do you do with fires this large?

Besides whatever the firefighters can think up, you also pray, visualize, intend and anything else you can do internally to bring peace to yourself and to the planet.

And to be clear, when I suggest that our inner world is creating our outer world, I’m asking you to look within and see where you may have “fires” burning within you.

Where have you maintained anger and/or a lack of forgiveness?

Even if you don’t think your inner state helps create the outer experience, wouldn’t you agree that finding inner peace would be good for you?

Again, please find love and peace within yourself, and release all anger and forgiveness issues.

When you hold on to anger and resentment, the energy system you burn up is your own.

It would be healthy for you to let the issues go, and it just might assist the planet in healing, too.

As I mentioned in my last post, do whatever meditation or technique you know to reach that inner place of serenity. Use ho’oponopono/Zero Limits or Tapping/EFT, or anything else you know of or can think of.

Meanwhile, we also still need to help others. Here are a few places to donate:

American Red Cross of Central Texas
http://www.centex.redcross.org/index.asp?IDCapitulo=F9ZLZNZ3KD

Austin Pets Alive
http://www.austinpetsalive.org/

Capital Area Food Bank
http://www.austinfoodbank.org/

Austin Disaster Relief Network
http://www.adrntx.org/

Catholic Diocese of Austin
http://www.austindiocese.org/

I’m not affiliated with any of the above, and they are Austin, Texas based as that is near where I live. You can do your own Google search to find other places to help or donate.

Again, what we need is inner peace, especially in times of high stress.

The outer dangers and scares aren’t a call to fall into fear, but a door to experience faith.

Thank you for your help.

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – What’s more important than serenity while taking action?

I love you.
I’m sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.

Brain Yoga, or Who's Driving Your Mental Bus?

I love the field of neuroplasticity. It’s so empowering. It basically states that your brain can be molded like plastic — and it can be reshaped and rewired by you.

Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz’s latest book, You Are Not Your Brain, written with Rebecca L. Gladding, M.D., is a great example. It’s in the area of what he calls self-directed neuroplasticity. In short, virtually any habit can be changed with the help of the four-step process he explains in his new book. You can now end your self-sabotage or any other poor habits. You can break free.

If you're not your brain, who are you?

If you're not your brain, who are you?

I interviewed Dr. Schwartz for my Hypnotic Gold members. This medical doctor, psychiatrist, and researcher exudes high-energy, has deep faith, and loves his work. He was adviser for Martin Scorsese’s film, Aviator, about Howard Hughes. Now Schwartz is helping people like you and me learn to rewire our brains so we can get the results we want and become the people we long to be.

At the heart of his breakthrough approach is the understanding that you are something other than the material. That’s why you can be separate from your brain, mindful of it, and actually rewrite it. Hence the title of his book.

Dr. Schwartz is a man of science, wrote a mesmerizing science-based book in 2002 called, The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force, and yet he is also a spiritual man, and isn’t afraid to say so.

He doesn’t declare where thoughts come from, but suggests some of them serve you and others are “deceptive brain messages.” The latter you can learn to hear but not obey.

I told Dr. Schwartz that in most of my books, such as The Attractor Factor, I call limiting beliefs what he calls deceptive brain messages. Both are thoughts that don’t serve your highest goals.

You Attract What You Believe

You Attract What You Believe

Dr. Schwartz explained that in his work with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) patients, brain scans revealed that they were obeying messages firing in their brains that were hurting them. It wasn’t a problem with the patient, though, it was a problem with their brain. With new skills, they could learn to retrain their brains. (Dr. Schwartz wrote about OCD in his first book, Brain Lock.)

But this is true for all of us. Our brains may not always be helping. The message for us is that no matter what the struggle, you can change it. It’s learning how. Dr. Schwartz’s four steps are a universal solution that apply to everything from BlackBerry addiction to compulsive shopping to bulimia to junk food addiction, cheating, procrastination, to how to stop going back to your toxic ex, and more.

In short, here are the four steps:

Step 1: Relabel.  Identify deceptive brain messages and the uncomfortable sensations; call them what they really are.

Step 2: Reframe.  Change your perception of the importance of the deceptive brain messages; say why these thoughts, urges, and impulses keep bother you. (“It’s not ME, it’s just my BRAIN!”)

Step 3: Refocus.  Direct your attention toward an activity or mental process that is wholesome and productive—even while the false and deceptive urges, thoughts, impulses, and sensations are still present and bothering you.

Step 4: Revalue.  Clearly see the thoughts, urges, and impulses for what they are: sensations caused by deceptive brain messages that are not true and that have little to no value.

For the details, you can go to the book’s site (right here) or just get the book from Amazon or wherever you buy books. (It’s also on audio.). The book is a breeze to read, and you can grasp his steps easily. I highly recommend it.

The point is, you can exercise your body, and you can exercise your mind. I’ll call it Brain Yoga for now. This information teaches you to be the pilot of your brain, and not a passenger letting it fly you into walls. Books and research by such neuroscience pioneers as Dr. Schwartz excite and inspire me. They prove that you can have what you want with persistence, intention, and strategy.

That said, what do you want for you?

Are you ready to take action right now?

Ao Akua,

Joe

Healing Music: Three Secrets that Startle Wonder

There’s a wealth of tools and processes available for you to do inner work. But over the last two months I’ve been working with select musicians to create what I call “Healing Music.” In short, this is music that does the sweeping in your unconscious house. The results are amazing.

The beauty of this new form of healing is that you don’t have to do much more than relax and listen.

Years ago Pat O’Bryan and I created a series of Clearing Audios that use subliminal statements recorded by me and original music recorded by him to help people “get clear.”  These have been very popular. Our first one, The Clearing Audio, is a hands-down all-time bestseller. It’s only ten minutes long, is easy to listen to, and does a great job of kicking out the limitations in the unconscious.

But I didn’t want to stop there. I wondered if full-length, inspired original music, with audible chants or lyrics, could do an even better job at healing.

I teamed up with two of my favorite people — modern Flamenco guitarist Mathew Dixon and singer/songwriter Sarah Marie — and urged all of us to create original healing music: full length audios that will do the job of helping to de-stress bodies and minds and guide us into a closer relationship with the Divine, and on to natural healing.

I also threw my hat in the ring and challenged myself to create my first original music album, too. I hired Daniel Barrett of the band Porterdavis to guide me through the music producing process.

We gave ourselves two months to complete our projects, starting from zero, and using the date of May 1 as our deadline.  I was told I’d be on the cover of the May issue of Austin All Natural magazine — and I am as of today– so I figured all three of us could get exposure in the special issue.

Cover May '11 'Austin All Natural'

Cover May '11 'Austin All Natural'

We had our goal.

We had our deadline.

The next step was massive action.

Could we pull this off in time?

My first music CD: "Blue Healer"

My first music CD: "Blue Healer"

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” – Plato

What are the results?

Sarah Marie's Opera Mantra CD

Sarah Marie's Opera Mantra CD

Sarah Marie created seven mesmerizing songs on a CD called Opera Mantra. It’s heavenly music inspired by ho’oponopono (the Hawaiian system of healing I wrote about in my book, Zero Limits, coauthored with Dr. Hew Len). Sarah’s angelic, soaring voice, singing the healing phrases that have been proven to resolve problems, is unbelievably soothing. Her tracks invite repeated listening.

I feel my soul brighten as I listen to Sarah sing. One track alone brings happy tears as it opens my heart to Divine love. The whole CD is enchanting.  Daniel Barrett said Sarah’s voice is “pure love.” Sarah’s seven tracks are designed to invoke the Divine and then help you merge with it. It’s truly moving. You can hear a sample by going to Opera Mantra.

“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without” – Confucius

Mathew Dixon "From Zero" CD

Mathew Dixon "From Zero" CD

Mathew Dixon created ten tracks of inspired guitar playing, called Music from Zero, using his modern Flamenco guitar style to musically wipe out energy blocks and any negativity. He added my voice as a subliminal (below conscious awareness) saying the four phrases in my book, Zero Limits (“I love you, I’m sorry, Please forgive me, and thank you”). Just listening to his beautiful music makes me feel relaxed, at ease, and one with the Divine.

He, too, was inspired by the ho’oponopono healing method to create his original music. No lyrics but plenty of enlightened vibe to free the mind and body to be here now. This is the kind of music that offers the vibrations of bliss. Track names suggest what you’ll experience: “In the Moment,” “Source”, etc. He dedicated the CD to me, which I’ll be forever grateful for. Go to Zero Limits Music to hear samples.

“Music takes us out of the actual and whispers to us dim secrets that startle our wonder as to who we are, and for what, whence, and whereto.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

And me?

Tracks on "Blue Healer" CD

Tracks on "Blue Healer" CD

I created a CD of five long tracks of healing mojo music called Blue Healer. They’re a blend of blues style music with ancient chants. I played as many as seven instruments to create this music, including a very rare 1915 Gibson Harp Guitar. I also chanted special Hawaiian and Sanskrit phrases designed to heal issues and remove blocks. One track (#4) in particular is so potent that I doubt any problem or issue can remain while you listen to it. I describe it as  “a freight train up your spine,” as it opens all the chakras and leads to a satori experience of awakening.

These five tracks are designed to be played as you meditate, work, play, drive, or rest. They are powerful. They move energy. They invoke spirit. Some are relaxing. Some are igniting. The “Gayatri Train” alone can help heal you.  It rumbles your energy and stirs your soul. Sarah Marie contributed her enchanting voice to four of the tracks, which creates a beautiful feminine-masculine balance. You’ll love it. Go see Blue Healer.

My CD was out first, so some early reviews are already in:

Marc Gitterle said, “I am inspired by your CD, as it is just so beguilingly listenable, and great sounding.”

Donna Aloia said, “It is truly a work of art.”

Mindy Audlin said, “So cool!!! I LOVE it!”

Donna Fisher said, “I have been listening to the Secret Harp track over and over and over and over in my car. This song is so soothing and I even notice myself breathing more deeply as I feel like I breathe in the energy of the music.”

Again, just go to Healing Mojo Music to order Blue Healer.

“Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons.  You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body.” ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

All three CDs were done before May 1st

All three CDs were done before May 1st

Please note that having a clear intention, and a deadline, and taking action, led to all three of us getting our CDs done before our May 1st deadline.

“It’s amazing all that you can do…” – Jem

The idea behind all of these breakthrough audios is to allow the high vibration of inspired music to work on you. It’s music as guru. Or music as healer. It’s an easy way to help create the personal transformation you want, right down to healing stubborn issues that used to resist everything else. And again, all you have to do is relax and listen.

To paraphrase Emerson, these three breakthrough new audios are “…secrets that startle our wonder.”

What could be easier?

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – Stay tuned for my next music CD, titled Strut! And other Songs of Motivation, Inspiration and Transformation, due out later this year. And my first public solo performance will be on a Las Vegas stage. (!) Sign up for free email updates right here.

Free Ho'oponopono Training

Whenever I spend time with Dr. Hew Len, I’m reminded of the fundamentals behind Zero Limits and the Hawaiian healing system called ho’oponopono:

  • There’s nothing to do but clean (i.e., release programs in the mind).

  • The more you clean, the more you can receive inspiration from the Divine.

  • You act from Memory or Inspiration, and usually it’s Memory (data).

  • The only thing to clean is what you feel inside; you’re clearing perception.

  • The only goal is freedom; to be at Zero.

Knowing the fundamentals is one thing, living them is quite another. This is why we sometimes need books, audios, DVDs, tools, seminars, coaches, and whatever else we can use to remind us that all the work takes place within.

This is why I’m excited to report that today you can have a free online training in ho’oponopono, taught by Dr. Hew Len and myself, by going to-

http://www.zerolimitsonline.com/free-hooponopono-training-lesson-1

The world is made up of “data” and it’s this very data that needs cleaned. The thing is, we perceive all that data as being outside of us, when in reality it’s inside us, so that’s where the cleaning has to take place.

In other words, there’s nothing “out there.” It’s all inside you. That’s where you experience problems and that’s where the cleaning needs done.

Dr. Hew Len often asks, “Have you ever noticed that when you have a problem, you are there?”

Think about that.

“Complete responsibility means accepting it all – even the people who enter your life and their problems, because their problems are your problems. They are in your life, and if you take full responsibility for your life, then you have to take full responsibility for what they are experiencing, too.” – from Zero Limits by Joe Vitale and Dr. Hew Len

But what is the right way to clean?

If cleaning is the number one most important thing to do and is the core of the entire Zero Limits and ho’oponopono process, how do you do it accurately?

Here’s how I do it:

  1. I notice something I consider wrong. This can be triggered by a thought, another person, an event, or anything else. This is the stimulus. Before Zero Limits, noticing a problem was always considered “out there.” After Zero Limits, you realize the problem is inside. It’s actually a problem in perception. Whatever the case, the first step is to notice you don’t feel good. You’re angry, upset, worried, scared, or any other of a wide range of emotions and feelings that could be labeled as unhappy.

  2. I start to clean on the feeling. I don’t clean on the other person, or the thought, or the situation, or anything “out there.” Again, the problem is inside. I’m the one aware of a problem. I’m the one who has to clean it. For me, saying “I love you”, “I’m sorry”, “Please forgive me” and “Thank you” is the way to clean. I say the phrases in any order. I say them non-stop in my mind while feeling the problem as I perceive it. And I say it to the Divine.

  3. I sometimes use other cleaning methods. For example, the last time I saw Dr. Hew Len, he told me my own business card (the one with my red Panoz car on it called Francine) is a cleaning tool. He said, “In your mind imagine slicing the problem up with the edge of the card.”

  4. I let go of need, addiction or attachment and wait to be prompted to take inspired action. Dr. Hew Len once told me that he cleans on a decision three times. If the answer is the same after those cleanings, he takes action on it. This means if I get an impulse to do something to resolve the perceived problem, I might clean on it three times before I actually take any action. This is a way to insure the action is coming from inspiration and not memory.

  5. Repeat as needed.

Business Card Cleaning Tool Per Dr. Hew Len

Business Card Cleaning Tool Per Dr. Len

Everyone wants a short-cut to cleaning and reaching Zero. I do, too.

But it’s that very impatience that needs cleaned. Wanting something right now is Memory playing out, urging us to get instant gratification. It’s data. The Divine has no sense of time and no urgency. Wanting things to unfold faster than they unfold is a wonderful opportunity to clean.

I keep cleaning because it makes me feel lighter, happier and healthier; it is a fast-track way for me to remove the data in my being so I can get closer to the Divine; and because it’s easy, effortless, and free.

Until the Divine gives me another way to clean, I’ll keep on cleaning.

Ao Akua,

Joe
