Who ARE You?

Back in the early 1960s, I used to watch a popular television game show called, To Tell the Truth, where three contestants did their best to bluff a panel of four celebrity judges.

One of the contestants (who, according to the rules could never lie) always had some sort of unusual occupation. The other two were imposters (and could lie). At the end of every show, the host would say, “Will the real ‘so and so’ please stand up?” and we’d all find out who was telling the truth.

Life is not really that much different.

We’re all a bit like those celebrity judges on the show trying to figure out what’s the truth…or to put it another way, which beliefs are going to get us where we want to go. Because, let’s face it, the real rewards go to those who have beliefs that support them in winning – with money or otherwise.

This famous game show line is where I got the idea for one of the chapter titles in my forthcoming book, At Zero: The Quest for Miracles through Ho’oponopono (which you’ll be the first to receive prior to its official release next year when you attend my November event in Austin).

Coming soon!

Coming soon!

The chapter is called “Will the Real Ho’oponopono Please Stand Up?” and reflects one of the reasons I had for writing this book:  to clear up a number of misconceptions surrounding this ancient healing method and to shed light on how it evolved through the 21st century.

And it has evolved…just like the rest of life. (Seriously, where would we be if the Old Testament hadn’t given way to the New Testament?)

Nothing stands still.

New revelations, new inspirations, new information is constantly revealing itself moment to moment – if you’re open to it.

Being open means that sometimes you have to surrender what you know.

However….this does require faith and trust, two principles you’ll find threaded throughout all my material.

In fact, it’s how I create all my material.

And Ho’oponopono has been invaluable in this regard because it helps me distinguish the difference between my ego and true inspiration. It’s my favorite method for transforming myself – cleaning and clearing any internal beliefs that could potentially run interference as I move forward.

And, to me, the results speak for themselves.

Attend this. Click image.

Attend this. Click image.

I’ve been able to exponentially increase my productivity and, surprisingly, increase my range of creative pursuits.

For example, in addition to writing books, I’ve become an award-nominated musician (when a few years ago I couldn’t even play a chord).

Recently, I’ve even released weight and transformed my physical body – going to an entirely new level of health and fitness (at the age of 60).

There’s simply no end to what you can achieve through your own personal transformation – even in areas that have been persistent problems.

But first, you have to decide what your truth is…

How?

By consciously choosing between beliefs that work and those that merely keep you “wandering in the desert” – beliefs that make you rich or those that keep you struggling.

I’m excited that this is the level of work we’re going to be doing in Austin, Texas on November 9 and 10, and where, when it’s over, you’ll walk away with a new view of yourself.

The real you…

You know, the one that’s just been waiting to be called to stand up.

Wait Broke the Wagon

Life is short.

Nothing reminds me of this more than spending
time with my 88-year-old father and dying
mother these days, and it’s fresh on my mind
after visiting them this past week.

While I was there, dad used a phrase he’s
repeated to me many times over the years,
“Wait’s what broke the wagon down,”
which translates into, “Take action now or
lose the energy of the moment.”

While I suspect the pioneers of the west coined it,
my research couldn’t pin down exactly where this
particular saying originated. Interestingly, though,
I did discover that Orville Couch used it as the
title of a song he wrote and sang.

If you’re a rockabilly aficionado like me, you might
recognize his name. He was an old country musician
who played back in the days of the Big D Jamboree,
a precursor to the Grand Ole Opry.

Of course, his song is about waiting around for a girl
to love him. (What else would we expect from a good
ol’ country song, right?)

All joking aside, waiting around for anything isn’t
a good idea. In fact, it actually becomes part of
the problem by temporarily stopping the flow of good
things into your life.

Why?

Because withholding yourself from life is like holding
your breath – except in this case you’re holding your
action back.

And, just like you have to release your breath to get
another one, you have to release your action to take
another step.

Now I’m not talking about timing here. Yes, there is
such a thing, but as Terri Cole-Whitaker once said,
“You have to act as if there is no timing.”

The beauty of all this is that when you’re tapped
into your Divine connection in such a way that you
know what to do – what inspired action to take –
there really is no timing. You’re in the flow and
moving in accordance with it.

Life is good.

Waiting, though…that’s something entirely different.

This notion of waiting – waiting for the right
circumstances, the right person, the right moment,
the right amount of money, the right job – operates
like a subtle and covert co-dependency: You’re waiting
for something out there to happen or to be different
in order to do something you want to do.

But its impact on your life is about as subtle as a
stealth missile – it can devastate your financial
well-being, inner peace, confidence, self-esteem,
and relationships.

To be clear, waiting is an action, a signal to the
universe that you’re not ready for what you want.

There’s only one way out of this kind of predicament.

You’ve got to stop putting up with things and decide
you’re not going to live a certain way any longer –
and then act on it by putting yourself on a direct path
of transformation. (If you’re serious, I want to meet
you personally in Austin this November at my event.)

Stop waiting around …

You don’t have to wait to see if the government’s going
to shut down again.

You don’t have to wait to see if you’re going to get
laid off.

You don’t have to wait to see what the stock markets do.

Economic certainty is not out there. You’re never going
to “find” it.

You can only create it.

But first, you have to stop waiting.

Like the pioneers with their wagons, you have to drop
some baggage and travel lighter.

Stop waiting.

Your time is now.

As my father would say, “Wait broke the wagon.”

All You Need

This folk wisdom from Alex Haley reveals a secret to success in life —

“Anytime you see a turtle on top of a fence post, you know he had some help.”

This is relevant because I just finished the long awaited sequel to the bestselling book Zero Limits and was reminded of something along the lines of the turtle observation. It’s about how to motivate yourself and those around you.

My new book is titled At Zero: The Quest for Miracles through Ho’oponopono. It picks up where the first book stops, and is pretty gripping in what it reveals.

The long awaited sequel to "Zero Limits"

The long awaited sequel to the bestseller "Zero Limits"

In it I tell the story of how ho’oponopono began (it wasn’t all love and light), and I share personal stories of my own dark nights (it’s not all bunny rabbits bringing me coffee every morning).

I also share a deeper understanding of what Dr. Hew Len taught, I give a great deal of fascinating information about Morrnah Simeona (the actual creator of authentic ho’oponopono), and I share some deeper secrets behind this mystical Hawaiian healing method – many revealed for the first time anywhere.

You’ll find the book hypnotic, deep, and unforgettable. The book, and its cover, are designed to be “cleaning” tools that work on you as you hold it and read it. And you can have a copy of it before anyone else by attending this event —

The book will be published in January 2014. Audio versions will come out next year. But anyone who attends my Attract Money Now LIVE event in November will be the first in the world to receive a copy. (See PS below)

Meanwhile, I wanted to share an insight about that turtle mentioned above.

A decade or more ago, I was in the home of Jerry and Esther Hicks, of Abraham fame. I helped them with their promotion in the early days, wrote the foreword to one of their books, created a full page national ad for them, reviewed their first books, and more. I love them both (and miss Jerry).

At their home I noticed a framed quote on a table. It was, as I recall, from the TV show, The Virginian.  In essence, it said that a man was able to accomplish more by having someone who believed in him more than he believed in himself.

It struck me as odd at the time. I was reading and teaching about “do it yourself” concepts. I was yet to learn about the power of having someone believe in you as a way to generate more results.

Of course, this is a key secret of coaching.

Besides accountability and instruction, with a coach you have someone who believes in you.

That is powerful beyond measure.

I have done my best to encourage and believe in every single person I’ve ever met who shared a goal with me, even if only for a few minutes over coffee.

At this point in my sixty years, it’s hard to count how many people have gone on to create results where none existed before. I’m not taking credit for their results. They had to do the work.

I’m pleased that I could add a little fire of encouragement to them, so they could pursue their dream.

It wasn’t hard, and it didn’t take long.

But this isn’t about me.

It’s about you.

I’m urging you to encourage others.

You have no idea what potential is in the people around you.

For example, I worked for a giant oil company back in the early 1980s in Houston. I was writing and teaching and pursuing my career as a writer, but my “day job” was as a geological technician. I was there until about 1984. I then left (read laid off), and struggled my way into success.

When the movie The Secret came out in 2006, many long lost friends saw me in the film, Googled my name, and reconnected with me.

One man who had been a supervisor at the oil company wrote to me and said, “I wish I knew then what a gem I had around me in the office.”

That was flattering, but it made me realize that everyone around you is a gem. You may not know their skill set, but if you encourage them, it could come to light.

One of my favorite childhood actors was Clint Walker, who played Cheyenne in the hit TV show of the same name.

Clint Walker and Steve Reeves

Clint Walker and Steve Reeves

Clint is alive and well at 86 years old.  A few years ago, he gave a presentation. At the end of it, after he received his standing ovation, he thanked everyone in the room for being an inspiration in their lives to others.

You didn’t have to have a hit TV show to be an inspiration, Clint explained. You could encourage others right where you lived, by what you said, and what you did.

I was reminded of all this while writing the sequel to Zero Limits, because along the way, a relative criticized my music. It gave me an opportunity to do some extra cleaning, ho’oponopono style, and it led to an important insight.

I was told by my peers early on to “gird your loins” when I started recording my own songs, as everyone has an opinion about singer-songwriters. Some people don’t like the Beatles. (Gasp). Some people won’t like me. (Faint.)

When my relative criticized me, I realized that what I — and everyone – want, is encouragement.

The world is full of negativity, bitterness, and ego.

What we long for is sunshine, in word and deed.

Triggered by my experience, I started a new song that basically says, “You can achieve any dream, all you really need, is someone who believes, in you.”

I was just in New York City, for a private master mind with a small group of powerhouse Internet marketers. The photographer there, Donato DiCamillo,  had a rough childhood growing up on the streets of Brooklyn. But he said something unusual happened that helped him make better choices as he grew up.

With photographer Donato DiCamillo

In NYC with photographer Donato DiCamillo

As Donato hung out on street corners, consorting with the wrong crowd, a local business man would drive by, honk his horn, roll down his window and tell him, “You’re better than that, kid!”

Donato told me that this happened repeatedly for years.

He kept hearing, “You’re better than that, kid!”

He didn’t know the man in the car.

He didn’t know why the man focused on him.

He found out later that the man was a local businessman, fairly successful, and a little eccentric.

Donato went on to tell me that because he heard “You’re better than that, kid!” over and over again, the statement lodged itself in his brain. Today, of course, he’s not on the streets, and was hired to be the official photographer for our private mastermind.

All because someone believed in him.

Here’s one final example —

When I attended my first Bill Phillips Fitness Transformation Camp last February, I saw Bill do something unforgettable.

He walked around the room, looked each person in the eye, and said, “I believe in you. You can do this.”

It was very powerful.

Bill Phillips and Sclott York believing in me helps me to transform my body into health and fitness

Bill Phillips and trainer Scott York believing in me helps me transform my body into fitness

Bill’s belief in me caused me to stay focused, work his 12-week program, and get terrific results.

At the end, I received a medal from him, saying I am a winner.

You can imagine how good that felt.

My reminder to you is to encourage others.

Be a coach.

Be a cheerleader.

Be a good friend.

“All you need, is someone to believe, and I believe in you.”

If a turtle can be picked up, and elevated to higher ground, so can you.

You can be The Turtle Whisperer. 🙂

You can look for inspiration, and encouragement.

It’s available.

But meanwhile, be an inspiration to others.

By the way, I believe in you.

Go for your dreams.

Ao Akua,

Joe

The Only Secret

Someone recently sent me this question by email —

“I have followed you and purchased many of your products for several years now. I am emailing you with one request. What is the ONE method that really is the secret? The one method, without any back-end products, that truly results in success? I have the will to make it happen. What is the ONE way?”

I thought about it and almost didn’t reply. After all, I’ve answered variations of this question repeatedly, in a wide variety of ways, in my books, blog posts, audios, events, and more, for over decades now.

But then I thought, what if a new reader has this question on their mind?

Since that may be the case, here’s my answer:

Coming January 2014

Coming January 2014

If you wanted to become a licensed private pilot, so you could fly small planes around the country, would you ask, “What is the one method that will assure my success as a pilot?”

I received my pilot’s license in 1972. I know for a fact there is no “one secret” to being a pilot. I had to learn everything from weather patterns to reading maps to FAA laws to how to handle a plane in all kinds of situations, and more. I went to flight school, but I also went to ground school, read supportive materials, and more.

There’s isn’t one way to be a pilot.

When I became a copywriter, I had to study books, old and new, and practice, sometimes with failure, sometimes with success, and test, test, test. I had to learn formulas, and templates, and the psychology of influence. I studied every copywriting course in existence, some long out of print. I bought copywriting manuals, books, audios, entire events on DVD, and more.

There is no one way to be a copywriter.

When I became a musician, I had to learn music, chords, song structure, and more. I also had to practice, with and without voice lessons, guitar lessons, songwriting lessons, and with and without time in the recording studio. I read books. I attended classes. I talked to musicians. I’m still doing it.

There is no one way to be a musician.

When I gained a name for myself as an Internet marketer way back in the mid 1990s, everyone would ask me, “What’s the one thing you did that made you rich and famous?”

Again, I had to learn it all. The early days of online marketing were a free for all, with everyone trying everything, trying to figure out “the one secret” to making money online. Along the way a lot of amazingly creative things were tried. Some worked. Many didn’t. Yet even today, after decades of being online, I can’t say there is “one” way to stardom online.

There is no one way to be an Internet success.

I’ve heard variations of the “What is the one secret?” question for decades. I often tell people there IS one secret to success. The secret is, “DO EVERYTHING!”

Do everything!

Try it all. Read the books. Listen to the audios. Attend the events. Test ideas. Invent ideas. Get feedback. Try again. Buy supportive materials. Invest in your learning. It’s “the” secret to success in just about everything you could name.

Say you want your child to go to college. Would you stop after he was in the first grade? Would you not buy him or her crayons, or books, or study materials, or new clothes for school? And if he or she was struggling, would you not invest in a tutor or summer school?

Again, there is no one way to be educated.

But if I was backed into a corner and asked, “Come on, Joe, what really is THE secret?,” I’d probably say something like this:

“Follow your dream.”

Joseph Campbell said, “Follow your bliss.”

I’ve often said, “Follow your enthusiasm.”

By following the inner prompts from within, you will take action, and as you take action, you will get feedback, and as you learn from that feedback and persist, you will, over time, have an adventurous life and maybe even be wise enough to enjoy it all, the struggles as well as the successes.

There is no one secret.

The Law of Attraction is A secret.

Gravity is A law.

Action is A principle.

And so it goes.

None of it stands alone.

The person who asked the question at the top of this post just needs to recognize there is work to do, and then go do it. Those back-end products might help you along the way, so I’d be grateful for them, too.

When I was learning to be a pilot, I took courses, bought extra books, and more, all to give me an edge. Same with becoming a copywriter, or a marketer, or a musician. Those “back-end” products truly helped me understand and integrate what I was learning. And I still invest in support materials today, as well as in coaching, for whatever the next challenge happens to be.

The person who asked the question says they have “…the will to make it happen.”

If that’s true, then nothing will stop you and all is available for you.

Actively follow your dream.

That’s “The Only Secret” to success.

joe
