Too many people study marketing and then make their first product about marketing and for marketers.
Big mistake.
A better idea is to learn marketing and then apply it in a different field of interest.
For example, membership sites are a profitable tool in marketing circles. Dan Kennedy has one. www.DanKennedy.com So do I at www.HypnoticGold.com
But not enough people do them in other areas.
Today I had lunch with Scott York. He heard my recent Unity Church talk about “The Real Secret to Attracting Wealth” http://www.unityofwimberley.com/archive.htm and asked to meet with me. I’m sure glad I made time for him.
Scott runs a membership site for aspiring bodybuilders.
Sign up and every month you get a DVD revealing the training methods of popular bodybuilder Lee Priest. This is fascinating. You get to see what Lee Priest eats, drinks, and does for working out. This is natural bodybuilding advice. It’s about hardcore bodybuilding. It reveals bodybuilding secrets. It’s explained at www.BodyBuildersReality.com
This may not interest you (unless you’re into fitness) but the aspiring bodybuilders, men, women and even teenagers, are devouring this information.
Scott no longer “works” for a living.
He just creates this monthly DVD with Lee Priest.
Do you see how this works?
Scott has taken a concept used in the marketing world and duplicated it in the bodybuilding world.
You can do this, too.
There can be membership sites for magicians, clowns, strippers, accountants, lawyers, doctors, bartenders, restaurant owners, dry cleaning stores, chiropractors, golfers, MLM, etc. You name it. A membership site can be created for it.
The lesson here is to take something that is repeatedly done in marketing and clone it in a completely different field.
The marketing world sees strong marketing every day. Other fields will sit up and take notice when you take those same concepts into new territory.
You can do this.
But will you?

PPS – If you haven’t purchased your copy of The Secret on DVD yet, it jumps up in price on April 20th. If I were you, I’d go get it at www.thesecret.tv/buydvd Some of the people in this great movie include John Assaraf Jack Canfield Dr. John Demartini Mike Dooley Bob Doyle Hale Dwoskin Bob Proctor James Ray and of course, yours truly, Joe Vitale .
A friend of mine of some 20 years, who I haven’t heard from in many years, wrote me yesterday with the subject line “Devastating News.”
His son, now 26, walked into a police station and confessed to the murder of his pregnant wife.
The police didn’t know of a missing person or a murder, but they investigated. Sure enough, the wife is dead. And my friend’s son did it.
How do you handle that?
Whatever your day is like, it’s got to be better than what my old friend is going through right now.

PS – In the Hawaiian system called ho’oponopono, you are responsible for everything that occurs in your life. Since this is now in your experience, it’s up for healing in you, too. The way to do this is to say “I love you” to whatever you feel is the source. And trust that It will do whatever is necessary for the highest good of all concerned.
People are writing to me after listening to my talk about the real secret to attracting wealth www.unityofwimberley.com/archive.htm and asking where they can get a Vedic Astrology reading done.
My favorite Vedic astrologer is Joni Patry. She’s in Dallas but does sessions by phone. Get the details at http://www.galacticcenter.org/vedic_astrology_readings.htm
Tell her I said hey.

PS – P.T. Barnum is looking for you. Look for him on May 9th.
I love this: Armand Morin and or AS Michael Lee Austin just put up a clever video to market Austin’s new country music CD.
All I have to say is go see this right now and watch this brilliant marketing promotion at work.
Whether you call this one of those Internet hoakes or an online hoax, I predict Austin/Morin’s CD is going to fly up the Amazon charts as well as the Billboard charts.
And they’ll do it all with viral marketing.
Go see – http://www.michaelleeaustin.com/promo.html

PS – P.T. Barnum returns from the grave on May 9th. Mark your calendar. (He’d love this Austin/Morin promotion.)
I love gadgets. You can imagine how excited I got when the ThinkGeek Overlords sent me an email this morning featuring the first ever Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard.
It’s a tiny device that laser projects a keyboard onto any flat surface. You then type on that projected image and your words are picked up by Bluetooth and sent to your SmartPhone or PDA. Think of it as an interactive hologram.
Is it a hoax?
Maybe.
But I wanted one.
Now.
So I shot over to http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/8193/
And that’s where my throbbing heart sank.
That’s where I saw yet another company make a common marketing mistake.
They promoted the gadget (real or not) before it was ready to ship.
There are no devices in stock.
Not only that, but ThinkGeek doesn’t even allow me to pre-order the darn thing. (Note: They do, now. They changed their site after I posted this blog this morning.)
Talk about disappointment.
It gets worse.
As I reviewed the specs for the Bluetooth Virtual Desktop Laser Keyboard gadget, I saw that my Blackberry 8700C phone isn’t listed as one of the devices it works with. So even if the keyboard projector is real, and was in stock, and I got one, it would be virtually useless to me.
Listen and learn: Don’t market anything before its time (unless it’s clear that the product isn’t ready for order and you’re just building a buzz for it).
And if this whole thing is a hoax, then it’s not very funny.
Disappointed customers bitch and moan and end up complaining to others — even on their blogs.
Ao Akua,
PS – The device is real and this company sells it and they say it is compatible with my Blackberry: http://www.laser-keyboard.com/compatibility.asp
PPS – I don’t know this for a fact, but I suspect Lindsay Lohan is now using a prescription medication for asthma called Advair. How do I know? Her voice is changing. I used the same prescription for a few months and noticed my voice changed, as well. A friend of mine uses Advair every day and I can hear his voice getting hoarse. I think the medication makes Linday’s voice huskier and sexier. But I’d rather see her get off all meds and find a natural cure for asthma. She might consider the Buteyko Method. http://www.buteyko.com/ I care about you, Lindsay.
