When using the ideas in my book The Attractor Factor or in the movie The Secret, you don’t always need to take action.

Sometimes — often — what you want will come about almost without you doing anything.

More often than not, though, you have to do something.

When Larry King calls me on a Wednesday night to appear on his show a second time the very next day, my part is to rush to the airport and get to CNN in LA.

I had to do a lot of sprinting to make it to the show.

That’s action.

In my book The Attractor Factor I call what you need to do “inspired action.”

If you get an inner prompt to make a call or buy a book or attend an event or apply for a job, then honor that nudge.

Act on it.

That nudge is coming from the part of you connected to the greater picture. It can lead you to the fulfillment of your goal. It will send the nudge, but you have to act on it.

My other point about action is that when you are clear about what you want and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it, the action you take will be effort-free.

I’ve written about this before. I write a tremendous amount of books. For many, it would seem like work. For me, it is effort free. I’m certainly working, but the mindset I have is that this is as natural as breathing.

The Secret leads many to believe action isn’t necessary. Action may or may not be necessary. It depends on you and what you want. My message today is to pay attention to the signs and jump when it feels like it’s part of the divine plan.

When you do, miracles happen.

Ao Akua,

Joe

PS – I just signed a six-figure book deal yesterday. I got the offer and took action to accept it. Now I have to take action to manifest the book. When you’re in the flow and doing what is right for you, magic and miracles do happen. The rest of the world will see you “working.” But you’ll be enjoying the divine play of life.

PPS – Along the same lines as this blog post, Bob Doyle’s article is excellent: “How to Make Self-Improvement WORK Every Time!” www.trans4mind.com/counterpoint/doyle1.shtml Go see.

Very well said! One of your best posts for summarizing how “action” fits into the LOA.

Congrats on the book deal! Keep um comin’.

    Cheers!

Ditto, very well said. I tend to agree, action is a big help and often necessary, but not always. You summed up my gut feelings perfectly. Thanks for the clarification!

    Congratulations on the book deal!
I like your little non-starter mansion, too. Your own theme park? Anyone who doesn’t grin wildly at the thought of that one has lost the little kid inside of them. 🙂

Joe! I just finished The Attraction Factor. Actually, it was inspired action that lead me to the book. I was looking for something else, didn’t find it, then just started wandering around the store browsing. Your book caught my attention. I picked it up, read the back, then promptly bought it. Three days later I finished it. I started your 30-day challenge today. My goal is to manifest a certain amount of money in 30 days. What’s so cool, is that after I did the 20 minute meditation, I checked our eBay account. (We sell stuff part time on eBay.) A rare how-to manual I had listed last week was selling for $66 before I meditated. The sale closed while I was meditating. Know what it closed for? $203.00! I’m well on my way to my goal. Needless to say, now I’m a loyal fan.

    Aloha Joe:

I have been associated with Earl Nightingales Company (Nightingale-Conant) since 1968. Originally I practiced Dental Surgery in Chicago for 15 years and then retired to Hawaii in 1980. For the last 12 years we have lived in Las Vegas. I understand you enjoy both destinations and we have that in common.

I am writing to you because my dream has always been to create an Environment in which those in the Performance Improvement and Life Enrichment Professions can go to relax, teach, and learn. This sounds very much like the mansion you are describing.

Earl taught me his definitions of Success, Security, and Happiness – they are simple and bring results by reflex once believed and acted upon. The late Arnold “Nick” Carter (V.P. Communications at Nightingale-Conant) was my mentor for 32 years. Oh yes he was bald also and looked like a big “Don Rickles”. You may have met him when they produced your program.

You could have your mansion within a mansion at this resort – -the goal is set for 1/11/11. The name will be “Kealohalani” (A Little Bit of Heaven)and if possible on Molokai – the “Friendly Isle”.

Now we would appreciate some of your ideas, attraction factors, marketing, imagination, etc. And your knowledge and prayers to raise the first $250 Million for the first phase.

Thanks for all you do to help and serve people. $$$ is the Reward for Service – (Earl Nightingale’s definition)

    In Gratitude & Expectancy,

    Aloha

    Dr. Jack Riggs

    P. S. – Bob Proctor was our first teacher and sales trainer at Nightingale-Conant in 1968. He sure has not only been the #1 teacher of Lead the Field in the World but become one of the best in his field. I owe much of my rewards in life to him and his training in 1968. Bob taught us to 1. Ask 2. Believe 3. Recieve – – a long time ago!!!

http://sales.meetup.com/12 – This is the website where I do my volunteer work now.

PSS – Most important word I learned from Earl was – HAPPINESS – “Doing Your Own Thing in the Interest of Others.” It works because Dr. Phil says – “How you define something is what you get!!!

To me, the question is not, “is action always necessary?” The question is, “am I dealing with a mere psychological principle or a force that’s capable of shaping the world in unimaginable ways?” It may not be obvious at first glance, but there’s a vast difference between the two.

In my experience it has filled both roles. Mentally I’ve become more focused. I’m better able to pinpoint what it is exactly that I desire to create and when it comes time to act there is rarely any hesitation, and when there is it’s a matter of “how do I do this?” and not, “should I do this? Boy I hope this doesn’t go wrong.” If I’m honestly uncertain of what I should do or I feel it would be in my best interest to do some self-examination before I make a decision, I am able to hold back without anxiety, without wringing my hands, without asking, “oh ****, what if I just passed on a major opportunity?” I know now that my state of being is foremost in all of my endeavors and if I have to pass on something to remain true to my core, then I have sacrificed nothing in the long run. Other greater opportunities will come my way so long as I stay focused on the end result and take care of my well being. (Without imposing on the well being of others, of course.)

About a month and a half ago I started feeling really crappy. And I mean REALLY crappy. It wasn’t a head cold or the flu or some such nonsense. I believed whole heartedly I was on the verge of death. Prior to that I was feeling better than I ever had, free to live however I wished, to claim my divine birthright and make this life of mine one worthy of the history books. Then, like Peter when he stepped foot on the water, I looked down and said, “you know, I really shouldn’t be able to…” and there was a loud splash.

My fears got the best of me. It was as if every little quirk and complex I’d developed over the course of my life manifested themselves within a single instant. I could hear them quarrelling amongst themselves over every minor detail ranging from why I’m afraid, why I should be afraid, and even which one of these complexes should be the most dominant within my personality. (For the record, this is a dramatization. I’ve never heard voices in my head, my quirks do not have their own personalities, it just makes the story more interesting if you suspend disbelief and view it like a show on a stage.) I’ve always been a very emotionally sensitive person so it’s no surprise I began sleeping longer and dreading the sun’s arrival. I felt every operation of my body slowing to a crawl and my heart seemed unsure of whether or not it wanted to keep beating. I felt unnaturally fatigued and I hated the thought of falling asleep as I’d lost confidence that I would wake up again.

It wasn’t long before I found myself sitting on the couch at 3am under 2 layers of clothes and the warmest blanket I could find, shivering uncontrollably as I struggled to breathe. My heart was racing and my body was stiff. My mouth was open but I couldn’t make a sound. Panic overtook me. I knew full well that I’d put myself in that position, an irony I would have smiled at had I been in a better state of mind. That’s when my own inner voice erupted with, “ENOUGH!” I knew my fears were doing it to me, I knew I was responsible, and I knew if I was to survive I had to regain control right then and there or my life would be forfeit. I closed my eyes and concentrated on calming my heart. To both my relief and my surprise, it responded immediately to my thoughts. (The relief and surprise were felt later, after the threat had passed and I was falling into a peaceful slumber on my bed.) I started inhaling deep breaths and I exhaled slowly. Lastly I tossed the blanket aside and stood on my legs, which felt as if they were imbued with an almost supernatural strength. I finished the night with a spot of tea and some home made bread with honey on it. The ill feelings had not been banished entirely, but since that moment I’ve retained an overall greater sense of self control than I’d ever known previously.

In almost every regard I am the exact opposite of what I was when that occurred. I am wholly convinced this is more than positive thinking or mind over matter. This is a principle that renders impossibility totally obsolete. Perhaps its most grand effect is how it opens the mind to possibilities it never considered, thus making real things one would normally never dare to conceive.

    Joe,

Once I learned how to use the Law of Attraction, my perception of life has dramatically changed.I have recallibrated my inner vibrations to resonate a harmonic frequency with the universe. Now I’m putting the Law of Attraction to work, and I’ve published my order on the universe.

Joe, I agree. I believe you have to do more than just sit around meditation, or visualizing, but I also think the best *ACTION* is inspired action!
